When I decided to run a blog, I - obviously - thought about its name first. You know - in order to obtain all possible domain name combinations before I wrote my first line.
So I thought about a name, which would be of high recognition. And it had to be something related to IT or whatever I was going to do with my publication.
For all German citizens, at least for those born in the 90s, there is a mass trauma: Our chancellor, which unwillingly described our country's digital agenda for the next 20 years. It took only one sentence to express the digital inability and lack of digital innovation.
Das Internet ist für uns alle Neuland
This roughly translates to "That internet is new to all of us". And I still think that this is true. Of course, even in Good ol' Germany, there is internet. And people are using it. But those, who are supposed to create a digital agenda, absolutely do not understand what this is all about (at least this is my impression).
That generation of full-time politicians seems to have issues with all that new stuff. In my mind, those people call their children to set up that new iPhone. I always expected them to try to print that whole internet thing.
So, what is this all about?
If you are one of those, who spread hate about German politics, I have to disappoint you. This is not a "Merkel muss weg" ("Merkel has to resign", a punchline of quite a loud minority of people, which are disappointed by so called "leftist politicians") publication.
This is about all the things, Angela Merkel unwillingly admitted with her sentence back in 2013. It is about German Angst. It is about the disability to embrace new opportunities. And it's about to show that there are indeed smart people living in Germany. I do not really see myself as a particularly smart guy. But I know a lot of smart people and I try to deliver their messages in this publication.
Just to show the world that there is a way to build neuland.
